Here is a block I just finished for Jenn M.  I'm really in love with these color combos and sorta wanna be sneaky and make one of these blocks for myself!  But, I've got others to make for other block swaps I'm in so I must resist and be appeased by photos instead.  I modified a block from a class I'm taking to incorporate 4 colors instead of three and I'm very pleased with the resulting coordination with her original block.  Jenn, I hope you enjoy it!

Yeah, I know it's weird to feature myself on my own blog but hey....I'm rude like that.  I just wanted to share the Christmas tree skirt I made this year.  I'm really proud of it and had to create my own pattern to make it work.  I think it looks pretty great and hopefully it's something that Travis (my partner) and I will enjoy for years to come each time it's time to bust out the Christmas decor.  Anyway...happy holidays everyone!!

Here is a sneak peak for Gidget.  These colors really spoke to Kathy when trying to find the perfect combo for Gidget.  Looks like the makings of a really gorgeous quilt block!!

Featured Artist - Jenn M

This is such a beautiful quilt!  I'm assuming it was paper pieced what with the odd shaped stars in the centers of each block.  Simply gorgeous!!

Made by Peggy

I've never seen this block pattern before!  I really love it.  Thanks for sharing!!!

Featured Artist - Peggy Reilly

This is my most favorite quilt that my mom has EVER EVER made.  It looks so vintage and crispy clean.  I just love it.  Unfortunately, it's a gift for someone else.  Such a talented quilter.

Love it and Covet!

Oh!  My new fav...the 60 degree triangle ruler!  I just picked one of these up last week and I've already made almost a full quilt top (pictures to come).  Using the directions in the Sizzling Sixties booklet by Heather Mulder Peterson I used the 60 degree ruler and made a TON of super fun blocks.  There seems to be endless possiblities with this little baby and I really am looking forward to trying out new blocks!

This is gorgeous!  And TOTALLY fits in with the receiving quilters theme.  Great fabric choices Jacqueline!

Jennifer R's November Block!

Loooove this block!  I'm definitely sense a fall theme here and....let's be honest, it's my favorite!  Such great color combos and it will really give us all a good theme to work from.  This is absolutely beautiful Jennifer!

Gidget's November Block!

Umm, hello!? Is this beautiful or what?  I love the little hearts.  I can honestly say that I have never made a block like this nor is this a usual color scheme that I work with.  I'm really looking forward to contributing to this quilt.  Wonderful job Gidg!!!

Fabric Trends - Grey is the new neutral

So, I've heard rumors that grey is the new neutral in the quilting world.  Personally, I'm a newfound fan of grey and have been incorporating it into a lot of my quilts lately.  If I see a "simple" grey print on a good sale....I'll probably buy a yard or two!  I can't help myself.  (On a sidenote, I was watching "Hoarders" with my boyfriend the other night and he promises that I don't have a hoarding problem with shoes, jackets or cardigans but I may be in the beginning stages of a fabric hoarding issue...I sort of don't care though).

Anyway, moving on...here are some pictures of some of my fav's as well as some completed quilts using grey as the neutral.  Gorgeous no?  Loooooove it!

Love it and Covet

LOVE this pattern on this soon to be released pattern book by Kim Brackett.  I think I shall give it a go!  It is such a fun quilt and looks like a great pattern book to have on hand.

This new fall line from Etsuko Furuya is simply beautiful!  These pictures are courtesy of Hawthorne Threads blog.  This new fall line comes in four different palattes including "Cool", "Sunset", "Sunrise" and "Fresh."  I think I definately could find something I'd like to make with these fabrics.

Yes!  My first "victim."  Kathy has sent me pictures of this AMAZING batik lap quilt made for her nieces 40th birthday.  She claims it was easy to piece together although, her skill level is much more refined than mine so easy in her book might be a big fat "what the hell?!" in my book!  Thank you for sharing this Kathy!  It is absolutely stunning.

So, I've decided to create some additional postings along with pictures of all our blocks sent each month.  I'd like to incorporate a weekly post called "Featured Artist" where you can share any projects you are working on and super proud of.  If you have a quilt, wall hanging, purse, etc that you would love to show off, please send it along and I'll be happy to post for everyone to check out.  Or course...if no one sends me their projects I'll just have to start tooting my own horn and "Featuring" myself every week.  How awesome would THAT be?!

Happy Quilting!

Favorite Blogs?

I used to have a list of my favorite blogs that I followed.  Whether they had to do with quilting, crafting, cooking, fashion or anything else that tickled my fancy, that list has sadly dissappeared!  So, does anyone have a favorite blog or two they would like to share?

Lucky Number 13!

My aunt, Kathy Reilly, was lucky enough to have just spent about a month in Europe exploring Amsterdam, Belgium, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy (how do you say I'M JEALOUS in Italian!?).  Once she got back in the country, I realized she is a WONDERFUL quilter and would be a really great addition to this block swap.  She is very excited to join us so after a little bit of tweaking to the mailing list (it only affects me and Rebecca) she has been added as our 13th quilter!  So, this will give us an extra block to work with which will enable us all to create a larger quilter.  Bigger = better right?!

I've updated the mailing list in the above tab to reflect the change in who is mailing to who.

I don't know about you guys but I am getting SUPER excited to get started on contributing to other people's quilts!  I've already been completely inspired by what I've seen so far!!!  Take care all and happy quilting

Cheers

Jenn M's November Block!

Using scrap fabric, Jenn made this really awesome block!  I think this is such a great quilt block for having used your scraps already in your stash (maybe I should start doing that....hmmmm)! It's a very vibrant combo and I can't wait to find something to add to it!!!  Thanks for sharing Jenn!

Sara G's November Block!

Going for a "Cape Cod Beach Cottage" feel, this is Sara's block!  For only having been quilting for about 5 months now, I'd say this block is beyond amazing!  Well done and I can't WAIT to find some fun coordinating fabrics for my addition to this.  Such fun colors!

Karen's November Block!

I just got an email from my aunt Karen today who is also participating in the block swap.  She has decided to go with a more traditional quilt style with a red, white and blue patriotic theme.  Check out this amazing quilt block!  I will definately have fun making a coordinating block for this project!  Kudos to aunt Karen.  This is terrific!  Happy Quilting!

(Sorry for the sideways picture!)

Peggy's November Block!

So, Peggy (my mom) sent both of these pictures to me because she couldn't decide which one she was going to use for the swap.  Both of them are AMAZING!  Look at those points!  She ended up choosing the blue block with some sparkly fabric.  Should make for a great foundation piece to a really lovely quilt!  How exciting!

Sara R's November Block!

To get things started, here are the TWO blocks I made as my "foundation blocks" for this project.  I've just got to pick which one I like the best to send off this first month.  I love them both!  Hmmm...what to do, what to do!

                                                                   Cheers!

NW Quilt Block Swap!

I decided to start this blog in order to begin sharing the blocks that all of my new quilter friends have created for the quilt block swap starting up this month.  Many of these lovely ladies have been hard at work picking their fabrics and creating amazingly creative blocks!  I've been lucky enough to have been sent some pictures of these creations and figured this blog would be a great way to share with everyone else who is participating.  Besides, I could always use another hobby right?  So I may as well start blogging!

I know that posting photos ruins the surprise a little bit but I also figured it would be more fun this way.  We don't have to post who the block is for so it won't completely ruin the surprise but it will simply give everyone a little taster!

So, if you've created a quilt block that you are uber proud of, please send it along to me and I'll post it to share with everyone.  Hopefully this blog will become a go to spot for block swap participants in order to see what all of our friends are working on!

Happy Quilting!!
